Sequence and Adobe Premiere Pro
Premiere Pro alternative for collaborative editing
Work on the same timeline with your team in Sequence. Bring footage into a shared browser project, shape the cut together, and keep review close to the edit.
Move from project coordination to a shared timeline
Premiere Productions organizes work across projects and uses project locking to protect an editor's changes. Sequence lets multiple editors work on the same live timeline without bin-locking. Named cursors show where collaborators are working, and edits appear in the shared project as they happen. This is a different way to divide work across a team, especially when several people need to shape the same cut.
Bring your editing habits into a different project model
Sequence has tools for marking, trimming, blading, retiming, and multicam editing. Your media lives in the project library, with folders and Collections for organization. Reflow editing keeps attached clips with their primary clips. Spend time with the timeline and audio controls during evaluation: familiar editorial tasks do not imply identical shortcuts, track behavior, or effects.
Plan the finishing handoff
Export Timeline renders a video file in the cloud. Generate Timeline Package creates an interchange package for another editor: OpenTimelineIO, Final Cut Pro 7 XML, or an AAF for audio conform. Export and import are different capabilities. Sequence can send a cut out, but it cannot yet import an existing Premiere timeline. Test a representative handoff with the person finishing your project.
Compare the workflow
| Workflow | Adobe Premiere Pro | Sequence |
|---|---|---|
| Working together | Productions coordinates separate projects using project locking. | Multiple editors change one shared timeline in real time. |
| Media organization | Project panel and bins organize source media. | Project library with Media, Timelines, folders, and Collections. |
| Editing environment | Desktop application working with accessible media. | Browser editor working with media uploaded to the cloud project. |
| Review | Review workflows can use integrations such as Frame.io. | Screenings and contextual comments are part of the editing project. |
| Rendering | Export and Media Encoder workflows. | Cloud rendering through Export Timeline; results appear in the project library. |
| Existing Premiere edits | Open and continue Premiere projects. | Timeline import is not supported; start a new cut from source media. |

Check the fit before switching
- Existing Premiere timelines cannot be imported into Sequence. Evaluate a new project rather than moving an active edit in place.
- Editing controls, audio routing, effects, and keyboard shortcuts differ. Check the tools your project depends on in the migration guide and trial.
- Cloud editing needs an internet connection and a supported desktop browser. Shuttle adds mounted media access on macOS only.
- Interchange is a finishing handoff, not a promise that every effect or application-specific setting will round-trip. Check the exported result in the destination application.
Start with a new cut and a real handoff
- Pick a new sequence of work and upload its source footage to a Sequence project. Keep active Premiere projects in Premiere.
- Recreate a small part of your organization using folders and Collections, then work through trimming, audio routing, and effects with your editors.
- Invite another editor to work on the timeline and share a Screening for review.
- Export a representative video and timeline package, and have your finishing collaborator check the result before adopting the workflow for a production.
Common questions
Can Sequence replace Premiere Pro for a team?
Sequence is worth evaluating for a new project when simultaneous editing and a shared browser workspace matter to your team. Check your editing, effects, audio, and delivery requirements in a trial. Existing Premiere timelines cannot yet be imported.
Can I import a Premiere Pro project into Sequence?
No. Importing a timeline from another editor is not supported yet. Upload source footage and start a new Sequence timeline. Keep the original Premiere project for ongoing work and reference.
How is Sequence different from Premiere Productions?
Productions coordinates work across Premiere projects with project locking. Sequence lets collaborators edit the same timeline in real time in a shared browser project, without bin-locking.
Can I send a Sequence edit to Premiere or another finishing tool?
Sequence exports timeline packages in OpenTimelineIO and Final Cut Pro 7 XML, plus AAF for audio conform. Choose the format for the destination workflow and verify the resulting cut there. Export support does not provide timeline import back into Sequence.
