Unlike the track based model in Premiere Pro, Sequence's timeline is the Reflow Timeline. It has a primary lane plus attached clips instead of numbered V1/V2/A1/A2 tracks, so edits always ripple and several editors can cut the same timeline at once.

What carries over#
| In Premiere | In Sequence | Learn More |
|---|---|---|
| Selection / arrow tool (V) | Select (V) — Cmd-click (Windows: Ctrl-click) toggles selection, Cmd-A (Windows: Ctrl-A) selects all | |
| Hand tool (H) | Hand (H) | |
| Nest… (right-click) | Nest clips, Option-N (Windows: Alt-N) | |
| Detach / Unlink audio | Detach audio, Option-D (Windows: Alt-D) | |
| Copy / Cut / Paste, Copy / Paste Attributes | Cmd-C / Cmd-X / Cmd-V (Windows: Ctrl-C / Ctrl-X / Ctrl-V), landing at the playhead or skimmer; Option-C / Option-V (Windows: Alt-C / Alt-V) copies adjustments and effects only, not the media | |
| Clip volume / rubber bands | Inspector Volume module (100%–800%, keyframable); mute with Shift-M | Detach and adjust clip audio |
| Fill Left/Right, channel routing, downmix | Channel-mapping matrix — Direct, L→LR, R→LR, Swap, 5.1→St |
What's different#
| In Premiere | In Sequence | Learn More |
|---|---|---|
| Numbered V1/V2/A1/A2 tracks, source patching | Primary lane + attached clips — nothing to target or patch; clips land in the primary lane, overlays attach beneath | |
| Insert (comma) / Overwrite (period) | Insert, Append, Drop — the period key is Append, not Overwrite; sends a clip to the end, not over the playhead | |
| Razor tool (C) | Blade (B) | |
| Rate Stretch (drag the edge) | Retime (R) Use tool or Retime Module in Inspector | |
| Slip / Slide / Rolling edit (3 tools) | Advanced Trim (Y) — one tool for all three, switched by drag point and Option (Alt) | |
| Timecode/audio-waveform auto-sync | Manual, or ask Snippy to sync angles by timecode and waveform | Sync multicam with Snippy |
| Essential Graphics (MOGRTs, shape layers) | Title tool (T) — font, size, alignment, Fill, Stroke; no MOGRTs or shape layers | |
| Audio Track Mixer / sends / submix | Component tracks — routing labels only, no fader, insert, send, or submix | Audio in Sequence |

Period is Append, not Overwrite
There is no Overwrite edit in Sequence. The three verbs are Insert into main storyline (comma, ripples), Append to end of storyline (period, adds to the very end), and Drop clips on top of storyline (semicolon, attached overlay). The period key that Overwrites in Premiere sends the clip to the end of the timeline here — reach for the semicolon when you want to lay a clip over the shot under the playhead.
Audio: component tracks, not a mixer#
Switch to Track view to see a clip's audio components, then assign each to a component track with its track pill. See Work with component tracks and Audio components and Track view.
Want a submix bus? Nest the clips
There's no mixer bus, but nesting gets you the same result: nest the clips you want grouped into a timeline, and any audio processing you apply to that nested clip acts on the whole group at once — a bus in effect, if not in name. See Nest clips into a timeline.
