When someone shares a screening with you, you review it on its own screening page — a player with the cut, a filmstrip to place notes on, and a comment panel where your feedback posts live for everyone on the project to see. You reach the page by opening the screening's share link, not from inside the project. For the in-project view of the same feedback, see The Review app.
Note: You need a Sequence account to leave comments or reactions, even on a Public screening. Anyone with the link can watch a Public screening without an account, but the comment panel shows a Login prompt — "If you're a collaborator, login to add and review comments" — until you sign in. A Private screening opens only for members of the project.
Note: A screening has to finish rendering before you can watch it. If you open the link too early, the player reads Creating screening... or Processing media... — wait for it to finish and the cut plays.
Open a screening#
- Open the share link your teammate sent you. The screening page loads with the cut in the player, and Sequence signs you in if you have an account.
- Play the cut with the Space bar (or K), and scrub through it by dragging on the player's filmstrip.
On a wide screen the comment panel sits beside the player, and a Details panel lists the screening's name along with its Created date, Duration, and Status. On a narrow screen, switch between them with the Comments and Details tabs above the panel. If the screening has commenting turned off, there's no comment panel — the page opens on Details and you can only watch.
A comment is pinned to a frame — or a span of frames — at the timecode where you drop it, so your note points at the exact moment it's about. Comments post live, and everyone on the project sees them: on the screening, in the Review app, and on the source item the cut was made from.
- Play to the moment you want to comment on, or scrub there with the filmstrip.
- Do one of the following:
- Click the filmstrip once to pin the comment to a single frame.
- Click and drag across the filmstrip to cover a range of frames.
- Type your note in the New comment at… field (or press C to jump straight to it). The field's label shows the timecode your note will land on, for example New comment at 00:00:00:00. To notify a specific teammate, type @ and choose their name.
- Click Comment to post it (or press Cmd-Enter — Windows: Ctrl-Enter). To throw the draft away, click Discard (or press Cmd-Delete — Windows: Ctrl-Backspace).
Your comment appears in the comment panel and on the filmstrip at its timecode, where the team can reply to it.
Tip: Select Pause while typing in the comment box to have the cut pause the moment you start writing and resume when you post — so the playhead doesn't run on while you type.
React with an emoji#
A reaction is a one-tap comment — a quick 👀 or 🔥 pinned at the current timecode instead of a written note. Reactions come from a fixed set of five: 👀 😍 🔥 👍 🥺.
- Play or scrub to the moment you want to mark.
- In the comment box, click one of the five reactions.
Sequence pins the reaction to the current timecode and posts it to the comment panel like any other comment.
Note: These five are the only reactions available — there's no full emoji picker — and the reactions row is hidden when the comment panel is narrow.
Reply to and resolve comments#
The comment panel lists every note on the screening. Click a comment to move the player to its timecode and bring it into view. To carry on a thread, reply to a comment; to close one out, resolve it, and reopen it later if the note comes back. Replying and resolving work the same way they do inside the project — see Add and manage comments.
Control playback from the keyboard#
You can drive the whole screening from the keyboard. Where a shortcut differs on Windows, both are given; the rest are the same key on either platform.
- Play / pause: Space or K
- Step one frame back / forward: Left / Right
- Seek five seconds back / forward: Shift-Left / Shift-Right
- Volume up / down: Up / Down
- Mute: M
- Loop playback: Shift-R
- Previous / next playback speed: Z / X
- Theater mode (a large player with a floating comment card): T
- Fullscreen: F
- New comment (jump to the comment box): C
- Post comment: Cmd-Enter (Windows: Ctrl-Enter)
- Discard comment: Cmd-Delete (Windows: Ctrl-Backspace)
- Exit commenting or fullscreen: Esc
- Open keyboard-shortcut help: ?
Everyone reviewing a screening can copy its link from the top bar (Shift-C). If you're an editor of the project, two more controls appear alongside it, each with a shortcut: download the cut when the screening allows downloads (Shift-D), and open the source in the Edit app (Shift-O). Reviewers without edit access don't see those two. See Screening settings for what controls downloads.
Get help while you watch#
To see the full shortcut list without leaving the page, press ? or click the help button in the top bar. The Help & Support panel opens with the Keyboard Shortcuts table — grouped into Preview & Playback and General — and links to the Sequence Guide, Release Notes, and Questions, Comments, Feedback?.
