Which browsers and operating systems can I use?#

Sequence runs in the browser, so you can edit from macOS, Windows, or any desktop operating system with a supported browser. Use a Chromium-based browser — such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge — or Safari. Firefox is not supported.

For the smoothest experience, keep your browser up to date.

What internet connection do I need?#

Sequence streams your edit from the cloud in real time, so a stable connection matters more than raw speed. A wired or Wi-Fi connection of 10 Mbps or faster works well. It also runs over LTE and 5G, but streaming video uses a lot of data on a cellular plan. Satellite and fixed-wireless (WISP) connections can be too high-latency for comfortable editing.

How much does Sequence cost?#

Why was I disconnected for inactivity?#

While you're in a project, cloud hardware runs continuously to render your edit and stream it back to you. To conserve those resources, Sequence disconnects you after 10 minutes with no activity. Playback keeps the session alive — you won't be disconnected while something is playing.

When you come back to a disconnected project, interacting with it refreshes the page and starts a new session. Your work is safe: everything is saved in real time, so you pick up exactly where you left off.

What happens if Sequence crashes?#

Sequence isolates its parts so that if one fails, the rest keep working. If something uncaught does cause a crash, you'll see an error in the preview letting you know something went wrong. The page counts down and refreshes automatically, or you can refresh it yourself.

Because everything you do is saved in real time, no work is lost — your session restarts where you left off.

Note

If you hit repeated crashes or believe you lost work, email the team at team@sequence.film so they can investigate.

Why isn't the preview showing what I expect?#

Occasionally the preview falls out of sync with the timeline and shows something other than what's under the playhead. This is usually a temporary desync. Refresh the page — the timeline reloads and the preview catches up.

If a desync keeps happening or you can reproduce it, email the team at team@sequence.film with the details.

Where are my media files stored?#

Sequence stores your media in the cloud, so you can reach your projects from anywhere. Rather than caching files on your computer for editing, Sequence keeps every asset centralized in its cloud project service, does all compositing and rendering in the cloud, and streams the result back to you in real time. That's what makes both the editing and the real-time collaboration possible.

Can I move timelines between Sequence and other editing apps?#

Yes — you can export a timeline as an interchange package for another nonlinear editor (NLE). In Sequence, right-click a timeline in the library and choose Generate Timeline Package, then pick a Format:

  • OpenTimelineIO (.otio) — the default. Choose a Compatibility preset that matches where the cut is headed: DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, or Latest OTIO schema.
  • AAF — audio conform (.aaf) — the audio-conform path for Pro Tools and Avid.
  • Final Cut Pro 7 XML (.xml) — the legacy cut-interchange format read by Resolve, Premiere, and Media Composer.

Sequence generates the package in the background and adds it to your project when it's ready.

Importing a timeline from another application into Sequence isn't supported yet. If that's something you need, reach out — the team is interested in how you'd use it.

Can I use another app's keyboard shortcuts in Sequence?#

Not yet — Sequence uses its own set of shortcuts, and remapping to another editor's layout isn't available. To learn the current bindings, open the command palette and search for an action to see its shortcut beside it (or press Cmd-K — Windows: Ctrl-K). You can also browse the shortcut list in the Help & Support panel. See Use the command palette.

Does Sequence support 4K or 8K?#

Sequence supports 4K. When you create or configure a timeline, you can choose the 4K preset (3840 × 2160) or the Cinematic preset (3840 × 1920) alongside the standard Default (1920 × 1080) and vertical TikTok (1080 × 1920) presets. 8K is not offered.
